Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a website that hosts videos and posts commentary on the representation of women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. She was the co-creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency a non-profit educational website which explores the portrayals of women's roles in popular cultural narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. In addition, she seeks to bring attention to problems like targeting and bullying of women in the online world. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomen and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by questions of gender identity as well as feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009, she founded the Feminist Frequency website. She was launching a series of web-based videos that explored the game's gender-based representations after she was the subject of online bullying. However the attack could not deter her instead it strengthened her determination to be a feminist media critic. Her significant contributions in the field of feminists were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit focused on the representations of women within pop culture and the narratives that surround them.
